Chiropractors address issues such as limited mobility, fixation, or misalignment in any joint of the body, not just the spine, to restore normal joint physiology and alignment. They perform adjustments manually, sometimes utilizing complementary devices depending on the technique used. Regular adjustments can help correct spinal misalignments, promoting a fully functioning nervous system and enhancing overall well-being.
Chiropractic adjustments are widely recognized as safe and effective manipulative procedures, provided they are performed by qualified professionals who can accurately diagnose and treat each patient safely. All our chiropractors are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). As with any bodily procedure, temporary side effects may occur for about 24-72 hours following treatment.
Treatment is typically painless unless the area is swollen. In such cases, your chiropractor will adjust the treatment accordingly. You may hear a clicking or popping noise, which is normal and common during chiropractic treatment.
Some patients report temporary aches and pains during and after treatment. This is normal and not a cause for concern.
If you feel uncomfortable with any techniques used during your treatment, you should discuss this with your chiropractor.
The timeline varies for each individual case. Some may experience a reduction in symptoms within 20 minutes post-adjustment. However, if your misalignment involves mechanical restrictions with deep soft tissue damage, improvement might be more gradual, taking 24-72 hours. For neurological dysfunctions, several adjustments over a few weeks may be needed to see a significant reduction in pain. Your chiropractor will discuss their expectations with you during your appointment.
Before treatment begins, the chiropractor will explain their findings from the physical examination and propose a treatment plan, detailing the benefits and potential risks. This is your chance to ask questions or request further clarification if anything is unclear.
You must provide your permission (consent) before any treatment starts. Additionally, you and the chiropractor should agree on the cost of the treatment. Since chiropractic treatment is rarely available through the NHS, either you or your health insurer will need to cover the expenses.
You are not required to inform your General Practitioner about any chiropractic treatment that you have received. However, you are free to do so.
You may also request your chiropractor to speak with your General Practitioner if you have any concerns or issues regarding your health or condition.
